I've beat DAX without really getting far in the Random Dungeon - though I guess it helps. Also, I had a bug which was actually beneficent for me there (recovering my stats at start of every battle - still, I agree, the RD was annoying ;))
Ragnaros' island is easy if you find it once and then relate its positions to the closest big landmass... I also beat the guy (again, without progressing much into the RD, and without finding the speed spell).
A game that annoyed me most, personally, is Zelda: OoT. I have played it twice, and twice I've abandoned it at the Water Temple due to being annoyed.
