Major bug in the cave o' evil

I don't know if you found this bug earlier and I missed a patch or something, but I was fighting Varigus(sp) in the Cave Of Evil, and in his undead form he used the devour spell on Dr. Science and removed him from my party, but permanently!

Like when I won the battle, some error message popped up saying something about Dr. Science not found and he wasn't in the menu. I'M SURE this must be a bug, because in the story sequence afterwards he was still talking, but he never appeared!
