That was in the original script.
I was going to program in Darken and Raze as NPC fighters, and put the three against some crazy bosses. Didn't think it'd be worth the effort though, so I cut that part. There's tons of crazy things I never got around to doing. Of course, if I didn't cut the game down to a reasonable size, I'd probably still be making it now. (Heh...)
