There's a bunch of optional things you can do at that point to make  your characters stronger:

- Darius mentions going back to his castle...
- Fight Posidon somewhere in the ocean...
- There's that Red Dragon from the begining of the game...
- You can pick up some rare items on a certain island... (I'm not talking about another, much smaller island, which you probably don't want to discover just yet.  Heh...)
