Do not specialify in all types of magic at once.
Look at it this way: you'll either get 1 spell which deals 40 damage, or 4 spells which deal 10 damage, just you have choice which one to use - what's better?
It's good to specialize in 1 or 2 types of magic. Of course it's also good to bump some points in all magic until you get "sense" spell (it requires 10 points in all magic, I guess), but later, specialize in 1-2 magic types.
Also, don't specialise in both tech and magic.
And put lots of points into HP.
