I forgot to mention the most important thing: practice!
I started messing with this stuff when I was 10-12 years old, taking my brother's action figures, writing a corny script and trying to make them fight without my hands being seen under the camera. (Heh...) I eventually moved on to very basic stop motion with clay figures that were little more detailed than blobs of clay. It was all very bad of course (heh...) at first, but I learned a little each time, and I got a little better each time. By the time I did MS, I was 17, so I've been doing this for quite a while (I'm 22 now, by the way.)
So don't worry about not getting things right the first time. I've had the feeling plenty of times. (Heh...)
