The ones I've done were from games with those sound tests where you can listen to all the sound effects in the game without background music. Or you have to find a part in the game with no music.
Actually I just remembered an interesting program I found a while back called SNESSOR95 (you can probably find it through Google). It can open up SNES ROMS and cycle through and save all the sounds effects and even the individual instruments that make the music singularly. The problem is that you have to play with the frequency to get each sound to sound right, though.
