It wouldn't have to involve any of the characters from DAX, or at least, not in the same light as before. Thye could have important roles in the plot, but not ever actually end up being plyable. Or they my not need to show up at all, depending on how far into the future the game is set.
The story could involve another part of the world. It might not even be relevent that the game even takes place in the same world until later in the game. And, as you've said before, DAX only takes place on a small island, which would cover the "Sudden appearing landmasses" problem.
But anyway, why I continue to argue my point, let alone to the Creator of the series, I have no idea. I've got way to much free time on my hands. [/boringramblingmode]
