Okay, just played through it again!
The dead end you speak of is probably the bridge. You can just walk underneath it by going left.
To clarify from the beginning, to get to Omal go right from where you start and go north on the first set of stairs you come to. Go through the door straight north. In the next room there is a bridge you can cross by going north. Then get off the raised section by taking the stairs to the right, and swing around under the bridge you just crossed by going left. Omal is past the door just north of here.
