Took a quick peek at the code, and the black cards indeed do not have any advantage over other colors. It's very likely I originally intended to add white cards to complement them, but never got around to it.

Dark Age Message Board: Huh...

Posted by Zir0N at 23:48:24 04-01-2012

Well, yeah I have windows 7. But it's the 32-bit version. Starter edition even, I've been playing on a netbook rather than a full laptop or desktop.

Thing is, I played DA2 and DAX on Millenium, XP, and even Vista and they worked fine then, even completed the game on Vista, though that was way back when. Even so, Vista and 7 aren't too much different so I didn't think there'd be any issues because of the OS.

Anyways, I won't know if the random encounter bug is fixed or not unless A: I beat the game or B: it happens again.
So until A or B happens, I'll just wade it out. Thank you.

Dark Age Message Board: All colors but the black.

Posted by Zir0N at 23:40:38 04-01-2012

So I was playing Dark Age 2 recently, playing the built-in card game. Which is really addictive actually, a lot more fun than I remember it being back in 05 or so.

The Umber Castle dungeon had just been completed and little Billy had been saved, Yay. So the first thing I did afterwards was challenge him to a card game.

It took awhile but I finally got my hands on his Vampire card, which up until I was captured by Darken and Raze was the most powerful card I had. The thing is though, is that unlike the rest of the cards with advantage numbers, Vampire was black-coded.

Odd, it was never mentioned of a black element in the basic tutorial and it doesn't seem to grant any advantages or disadvantages against any other element I've used it against. Later on, I collected more dark-element cards like D.Knight and D.Blade.

Which brings the question
"What is this dark element? Does it have any advantages or weaknesses? Does it have its own enemy alignment like the rest?"

Kind of a question out of curiousity, since I never got to explore further after that issue with the random encounters (Already resolved, thanks Xorlak)

Dark Age Message Board: Hmmmm...

Posted by Xorlak at 11:34:02 04-01-2012

Try putting this file in the game's prg folder (same as with the pirates program). This is the file that manages enemy encounters. Tried the same hack with this one... worth a shot!

Are you playing on Win 7 64 bit by any chance? I played a few minutes of DAX on my system and noticed some things behaving strangely. I've yet to do a thorough play-through on a modern system, though I've been meaning to sometime.

Good luck!

Dark Age Message Board: Bugs be killing my game man.

Posted by Zir0N at 02:16:39 04-01-2012

Hey, it's me again, back with a new issue. So after the pirate fiasco I finally got back on my way, completing Umber Castle all the way up to Lynerag's Tower. All's well til I decide to go after my first gem. Since in my very first game way back in 04-05 I went for the gem of Air, I decided to challenge Raiken first.

The only problem being is that when I reached Mt. Raiken, no enemies showed up. Zip, zero, nada, none.

With no enemies showing up and after reinstalling the game to be sure, I decided to start my file over again. Bummer. Well, needless to say, after I completed the temple test. Get this...

It happened, again! Only much earlier. No enemies appeared near Zhol or in Viper's Cave. I think you already touched on this problem before but no temporary fix is gonna stop these bugs from happening again. It was nice picking this up for nostalgia's sake, but if I can't get through the first quarter of the game without some sort of trouble well then I just can't play. Dark Age 2 requires a lot of grinding to play through and I can't exactly play if I can't grind.

Dark Age Message Board: Awesome! No prob. -nt-

Posted by Xorlak at 10:41:02 03-31-2012

Dark Age Message Board: Eureka!

Posted by Zir0N at 23:27:18 03-30-2012

Yup, it worked. Everything's working fine now. Thank you.

Dark Age Message Board: Try this

Posted by Xorlak at 10:43:22 03-30-2012

Here you go!

It's not the exact file that was lost, but I'm pretty sure I did the same thing as back then. (Add a bunch of blank lines at the top... weird thing with the Toolkit that magically fixes problems sometimes. ;)) Let me know if this works for you!

Dark Age Message Board: Bloody pirates

Posted by Zir0N at 06:09:15 03-29-2012

Okay, this issue has already been addressed I know, but to clarify, it's about the first encounter with the pirates in Dark Age 2, where the game glitches and no fight occurs?

Well, I did some looking around the forum and found the answer to the problem. Or so I thought.

Seems the file needed to fix the problem, pirate1.prg is no longer available to download. 404 error.

Do you have a backup file I can grab?

Dark Age Message Board: Nooooo, I don't. ;)

Posted by Xorlak at 19:47:34 03-06-2012

I'm too busy drawing comics nowadays anyway. ;)
